Civic Center and Home to the EDC Offices

A very plain and builder package type landscape. Not a very inviting or professional looking image which is desired by the EDC offices, who's main goal is to attract new development and businesses. Curb appeal is important to any professional image and we agreed that this curb needed some attention. We didn't want to add to the maintenance needs though, so a xeric landscape approach made perfect fiscal cents!

Killing Weeds Naturally!

First we sprayed the crab grass and other weeds with Maestro Gro's BlackJack weed killer - a combo of vinegar, orange oil and molasses. Then, we covered it with black plastic and secured it with landscape staples.

With many people visiting the center every day, organics made even more sense. Who wants to inhale toxic synthetic weed killers?

Weed Kill!

3 weeks later, after lots of good hot, sunny days, we removed the plastic to lots of dead, fried weeds and roots.

A Terrace is Begun

Giving your landscape a "second floor" can give it a whole new look. Carefully leveling the stone to stablize this berm is important so it doesn't collapse.

Just About Done

Lacking only mulch and a few plants, this newly terraced bed gains the professionally designed image this building should have.

By using natives and drought tolerant plants, including Turffalo grass, the landscape will need very little attention once established. Being fiscally repsonsible with the citizens' money is a smart thing. Congrats EDC 4A!
