Earth Day Weekend - Gardening Work Party!

WHEN:

Saturday, April 25th 9am - 11am

Come celebrate Earth Day by getting your hands in the dirt at the farm.

We love the rain, but the soils are very, very wet - tractor work is not an option. BUT -

Weeds are getting higher by the day - by the MOMENT!

But we've got to get things planted. Folks are relying on a summer garden here at Eden's.

If you want to come lend a hand this Saturday morning to do some good ol' fashioned gardening with rakes and hoes, come on out at 9am.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Closed toe shoes - boots or thick soles are best (Mesquite and locust thorns are no match for sandals or crocs)
  • Drinking Water (Start drinking some before you get here)
  • Hat to protect your head (if the sun reappears as predicted, it'll get hot fast),
  • Sunscreen if you're a real pale-face (I don't want anyone going home looking like a lobster!)
  • Insect repellant (I'll pass out a natural one so no one's smelling like a Deet factory.)
  • Work gloves (some of our weeds bite!)
  • If you have a favorite hoe or rake - label it and bring it with you. (We have some tools - and you have two attached to the end of your arms with 10 gloved fingers that can do amazing things, too. :)
  • A great story and a smile to share!

Optional - If you'd like to bring a sack lunch, we can harvest some winter greens together to make a community salad and have a communal lunch in the yurt after we get done working.

WHAT WE'LL BE DOING

We have several rows of onions to weed - onions and leeks don't like competition

There are a few giant pieces of frost cloth to fold up for storage (imagine if the Jolly Green Giant had a parachute!)

If it's dry enough, we can hoe some new rows and then hopefully;

Get some tomatoes, peppers and eggplants in the ground

Stake some tomato plants

If it rains hard - we'll reschedule - if it's drizzle, we'll do what we can. But as of now, it looks clear and nice.

Supervised kids are welcome, too. Bring a little jar they can collect bugs in to feed to the chickens. :)

Thanks!

Weekday Farm Tours!

Teaching others about small local farming and personal nutrition is one of our passions here at Eden's.

We feel that education is important in helping people strive to live healthier more fully independent lives.

Bring your group to Eden's Garden CSA Farm for an educational  farm tour experience and learn about sustainable farming/gardening, food preparation, farm animals' place on the farm, take a scenic walk to see our honey bees, and stay for a special extended unit on honey bees or earthworms (Extra unit optional.).

One of our farmers will guide you around the farm for an interactive tour. Get up close with chickens, roosters, sheep, livestock guard dogs and horses; observe a working farm with guided tour of the gardens, bee hives, chicken coops, and horse barn.

Pack a picnic lunch and eat under the old oak trees and enjoy an afternoon away from the city - just down the road.

  • $10 student/tour sizes limited to 50 per group/day

  • $100 minimum
